How To Solve Grams to Cups of Flour
Sometimes you need to know just how many of one unit measurement equals another larger unit of measurement, or even a smaller one. In this instance we want to know how many cups of flour are equal to 300 grams of flour or any substance.
Let’s start with our formula.
First we need to know how many of the smaller unit are in the larger unit. In this case, grams are smaller than cups even though they’re both in different metric systems. One is the American system and the other is the metric system.
How many grams of flour are in one cup?
There are 120 grams of flour in one cup.
What is the formula to find out how many grams are in X amount of cups of flour?
The formula (remember, with Boredom Zone, formulas are fun!) is:
X number of grams / 120 = Number of Cups of flour
Let’s try an example.
How many cups are made up of 300 grams of flour?
Let’s use the formula.
X number of grams / 250 = number of cups
300 grams / 120 = number of cups
2.5 cups of flour are equal to 300 grams flour

How many grams are in one cup of salt?
There are 273 grams of salt in one cup of salt.
Now what if you need to figure out a different conversion? You use our formula which should work similarly to the one for flour!
How to find out how many grams are in X number of cups of salt:
273 times X number of cups of salt = grams of salt
If the example is, how many grams are in 5.5 cups of salt?
Use the formula!
273 X 5.5 = total grams of salt
1,501.5 grams of salt would be the total number of grams in 5.5 cups of salt.
Let’s do one more example.
How many cups are in 3000 grams of salt?
Now we need a bit of a different formula.
If 273 grams are equal to one gram of salt, then we can flip the equation.
X grams of salt / 273 = number of cups of salt
Let’s try it with the example above.
The X grams of salt = 3000 in our problem.
Then 3000 / 273 = number of cups of salt
10.98 cups of salt is equal to 3000 grams of salt.
